The various types of masks work to remove or "filter out" the pollen cells and spores that can be extremely small and carried by insects, birds and the wind everywhere.  Pollen is very efficient at getting spread everywhere very quickly.  The good news is that some of the very best respirators and the N95 or KN95 medical masks filter out the majority of these spore cells.

These oral filter masks have a filter rating of PM2.5 meaning that they will remove particulate matter as small as 25 micrometers and bigger which is the majority of pollen and spores that are released into the air.  There are 2 types of PM2.5 respirators:
